1. Preheat oven to 350°F. In a pan, melt 1 stick of butter over medium to low heat and let it cool to warm from hot. 2. Add melted butter, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, and 3/4 cup of dark brown sugar to a bowl and whisk until well combined and smooth. 3. Add 1 egg and 2 tsp of vanilla extract to the wet mixture and whisk well. 4. In a separate bowl, add 1 1/4 cup of flour, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/4 baking powder, and 1/2 tsp salt, and whisk well. 5. Combine your wet and dry ingredients. 6. Chop up all of your favorite leftover candy you’d like to add to your cookies (the author advises not to use gummy candy). 7. Fold in the chopped candy into the dough. 8. Chill your dough for at least 30 minutes to keep them chewy. 9. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 10. Scoop about 2 tbsp of dough onto the lined baking sheet (an ice cream scooper is recommended for ease). 11. Bake for 10-11 minutes, until the edges are golden brown.
